Okay, these are "quickies" from my cheap digital I keep in my chart bag at work...you'll have to wait for me to get the good ones back from the pro and check my website in a couple weeks...these don't do Tony's finishes justice, but here goes!

Sorry for all the wasted space...I don't know how to get these side-by-side!

Guys, what does Tony do? does he finishes guitars?

Author:  L. Presnall [ Tue Feb 14, 2006 11:55 am ]

Boy, does he! I've half a mind (yeah, I know!) to send him some bent sides, a back and top, and some tuners and say, "Here Tony, I need it finished"! Seriously, for the money and time versus the extreme level of quality and "finish" I can't ever see finishing my own guitars again! As I said, the pix are awful and don't do Tony justice...look at John Maye's and Lance's sites for better examples...

Tony ....is Tony Ferguson
He lives in Nunica Michigan and he is an awesome finisher.
He uses urethane instead of Nitro Laq. His finishes are like glass.
Fantastic work.

Tony does a catalyzed urathane finish. Not Nitro. If you want Nitro you might try Addam Stark.

The best way to reach Tony is via telephone. (Sorry I don't have nis number handy or I would post it.)

Peterm, Tony doesn't have email...his phone # is:

616-842-4114

Serge, the binding is actually "tortoise" from Stew Mac...I try to use wood now, but the guitar my customer saw was sitka/EIR/tortoise and that's what he wanted for himself...

Hesh, the neck's just plain ol' mahogany...not stained or anything...still working on the nuts...we'll see what happens with the next one...at the price bone blanks are fetching now I can't afford to ruin too many!

Larry, where are you getting your blanks? Lots of folks here have been buying from Chrislin Trading. You might want to see how they compete on price.

What does a professional finish cost? and Is it totally final sanded and taped, etc. when you send it?

You just finish sand it and Tony takes care of everything else. It is a beautiful thing.

Costs are in about the $350 range give or take based on what you want done.

TO get a price sheet in US dollars, just email Chrislin I presume?

Don, I just ordered a batch from them...looks like the way I'll go in the future...and ditto what Brock said about Tony...I sent the guitar sanded to 220...he filled, sanded, sprayed, and even filled the ends of the fret slots! All for around $350.

I just ordered some unbleached nut and saddle blanks from Chrislin. $2.00 each and 20 to 30 day delivery. I believe they come from China.

Yeah, ditto. Sent yesterday, should be here in a few weeks, I hope. I've ordered bleached buffalo bone blanks from a Taiwanese eBay seller, and the quality seems very good, although a few need a bit of truing up before use. Plenty large enough to accomodate any variations, and I believe I paid something like 30 bucks, inlcuding shipping, for a good 30-35 nut/saddle combos. No unbleached stuff, though, which I much prefer for some designs/looks.

Mattia, I`ve dealt with this guy, I think. I bought 10 nuts and saddles from him for $16.00 total awhile back. He did me right, even threw in a couple extra saddles.
What`s your take on all that inlayed merchandise for so cheap? Kinda strange if you ask me.
